Get Urgent Help

Moving On Tyne & Wear (MOTW) is a local programme that helps people who are unemployed and have a health barrier, disability, additional learning need, or autism to get closer to the job market.

We are immensely proud to be the lead partner of this fantastic programme, and we have worked closely with the MOTW team since it launched in 2017.

The programme has five teams of experienced Navigators, who work across the following areas of Tyne and Wear:

  • Newcastle
  • Sunderland
  • Gateshead
  • North Tyneside
  • South Tyneside

By working with people on an individual basis, the Navigators provide bespoke support and advice to help people to meet their personal employment-related goals. There is also a Pathways team, who provide this support for people with autism or additional learning needs.

Whilst MOTW is here to help people get closer to work, the team start by helping participants to address their personal circumstances, health barriers, and any other health-related concerns.

Each participant is encouraged and signposted to the help they need, helping them to boost self-esteem and allow them to enter volunteering, work, or training opportunities with increased confidence. Our MOTW team recognises that each person is different, so we’re proud to offer a tailored service – including digital and face-to-face contact.

“Thanks to MOTW I’m currently on my way to my dream job, something I always considered to be a long-term goal. I can’t recommend their support enough!”

To date, MOTW has welcomed over 2,424 people onto the programme; with 510 moving into education or training; 319 into employment; and 181 into active, unsupported job searching.

These amazing results are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the team, and we’re delighted that over 1,094 participants have improved wellbeing, motivation, and aspirations as a result of their time on the programme.

“The support you have provided highlights your caring nature and concerns towards my wellbeing. You have always prioritised my health conditions and recognised how much searching for employment means to me, trying your utmost effort to secure my achievements.”

As well as using the experience and advice of our team at Everyturn Mental Health, MOTW also works closely with eight supporting charities, each bringing a wealth of knowledge in a range of areas.

Moving On Tyne & Wear is joint-funded by the European Social Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund and is part of the Building Better Opportunities (BBO) Programme. The nationwide BBO initiative invests in local projects that tackle the root causes of poverty and promote social inclusion.
