Today is an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate all of our colleagues who identify as women for the meaningful impact they make to the lives of the people we support!

While today is an opportunity for us to celebrate, it’s also an opportunity for us to recognise the progress that still needs to be made as a society towards gender equity. PWC’s Women in Work 2025 survey found that although the UK has made improvements between 2022 and 2023, its ranking dropped from 17th to 18th place, the lowest it’s been in over ten years.

However, we’re really pleased to see that the survey reports the North East has stepped up, jumping from 10th to 4th place in the rankings. As a charity rooted in the North East, where many of our registered services and crisis support services are based, we’re really pleased to see this kind of growth.

Last year, we were so proud to be named 34th in the top 100 in the large employers category for the UK’s Best Workplaces for Women™. We’re thrilled that that 76% of our leadership positions here at Everyturn are held by women.

Plus, we understand the importance of work/life balance, and how that looks different for everyone. That’s why we’re proud to offer flexible working arrangements as standard practice. With over 30% of women working at Everyturn in part time arrangements, they’re able to meet their personal and professional commitments in a way that works best for them.

At Everyturn, we’re committed to constantly improving our policies, development opportunities, training programmes, and overall practices to improve gender equity within our workplace.

Our policies

We’ve introduced a number of new policies to support our colleagues and increase gender equity here at Everyturn. These policies have been co-created by our colleagues, through sharing their lived experiences with us, including about the impact of fertility treatment, menopause symptoms in the workplace, and how workplaces can offer the right support. Our policies include:

  • Menopause policy
  • Pregnancy loss policy
  • Gender identity policy
  • Fertility treatment policy

Sarah DewarSarah Dewar, our Director of People and Digital said:

“We’re really proud of the progress we’re making at Everyturn towards equity, to make sure that all of our colleagues feel supported and able to thrive in the workplace.

“But we know there’s still work to be done, and we’re eager to continue listening to the valuable feedback from our colleagues, and taking meaningful action on the things that matter most to them. Their views and lived experiences are so important, and they’ll help us to shape our workplace policies and practices.
