Harry Douglas, our National Neurodiversity Champion, and Hayley Brown, our CPD coordinator, have been doing incredible work on an eLearning course and guide to support our practitioners in making positive adaptations to support neurodivergent individuals during therapy.
The eLearning course and guide are designed to support our practitioners with assessing, discussing, adapting, and concluding therapy with neurodiverse people we support, and also includes examples and signposting information to make sure that we’re providing support and care that is individual to each person.
“As a talking therapies service, we’re seeing a huge influx of neurodivergent clients seeking support for their mental health, but facing barriers of practitioners who didn’t recognise or adapt for their neurodivergent context.
“This is a group that is shown to be at significantly higher risk of mental health difficulties and 7 times more likely to attempt suicide than the general population, so getting the right support at the right time is crucial.
“Research demonstrates that CBT and counselling can be of huge benefit to neurodivergent people, but requires the right adaptations to make it beneficial and support specific needs and differences” – Harry
We’re really proud of the work that Harry and Hayley have put into this learning resource for our colleagues, to make sure we’re providing the people we support with the best care that’s right for them.
