We're so proud to celebrate the success of our NHS 111 crisis response service, which has supported thousands of people since it launched earlier this year.

Our service launched in April 2024, as part of the national roll-out of the NHS 111 option 2 service for people in mental health crisis. If someone is in distress and calls 111, they can now receive instant support from teams like ours.

Our service covers North Yorkshire, York, and Selby, and we’ve partnered with Tees Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust to deliver it.

Our team of nine Mental Health Advisors and five Senior Mental Health Advisors listen, advise, signpost to local support, or refer people on to the NHS crisis team if they need clinical support.

Between the service’s launch and mid-July, our team supported over 7,300 people and referred only 30% of their calls to the NHS crisis team. This means people are getting support sooner and we’re significantly reducing the pressure on our NHS colleagues.

The comments we receive from the people we’ve supported show what a difference our team is making:

“Please can you pass on my thanks to the advisor I spoke to at the weekend. I didn’t know where to start to explain how I feel, but they really put me at ease.”

“I hate to think where I would be now if I didn’t speak to Pam, please can you let her know how much she helped me last night.”

Reflecting on the last five months, Luke Herron, manager of our Mental Health First Response Service, said:

The Mental Health First Response Service helps people who may be struggling with their mental health. Whether someone finds themselves in crisis, distress, or just need some advice or guidance, we’re here for people who need us.

The team is here to listen and support 24/7, offering a safe, encouraging, and sensitive approach to people’s needs.

I’m incredibly proud of the service and the team. I’m overjoyed with the impact that the service is having on patients, the wider community, and our partners.

We’re proud of our team and the contribution they’re making to getting people the support they need – when they need it most.
